Emerging from the rabbit hole

Ok. So obviously I fell down a rabbit hole. I had no intention for going offline as long as I did. My absence wasn’t just from blogland. I haven’t been on facebook and rarely checking emails too. I have slowly started coming back again and trying to read blogs I’ve missed. Bear with me, it may take me a while to get to yours.

So, what have I been up to? You know, I have no idea. It really doesn’t feel like it should have been this long since I’ve been online based on what I have (or rather haven’t) done.

I’ve been finalising things for my trip – pretty much all done now. I’ve been failing to break in my hiking boots – oops. Been knitting a little – have a baby blanket to show you after I do the last bit of finishing tomorrow and have been working on a gift that I might give you a sneak peek on. I’ve been spending time with friends, and some being a hermit. There’s been lots of work and a bit of stress. And of course, you can’t be me and get this close to a big holiday without throwing in a bit of sickness.

And tonight was a fun trip to the vets with Macros. He’s gone completely inactive so his claws have grown too long again. A call to the vet today to register him and that conversation should have tipped me off. I told them that as he’s 18 and stays home all the time without any interaction with other animals, I don’t vaccinate him anymore. A trip to the vets distresses him so I think why take him unnecessarily. That was met with the comment: well if he’s never been to the vet there’s no point me taking a medical history. Hmm. Next came the actual trip. He’s only ever been in a carrier once and that was when he flew to the UK. He had a basket but that got left behind in Cardiff so I took him on my lap on a towel. Well, that was met with disapproval. Really, he wasn’t the only one out of a carrier at the vets in Oz, I didn’t think it was such a big deal. And finally, he did his semi-usual protest pee on the towel and me on the way. According to the receptionists (thinking they were talking quietly enough so I couldn’t hear), that was because he wasn’t in a carrier and I was an irresponsible pet owner. Despite the vet himself being quite nice, I think I might try the other vet in town next time. I can’t say I’ve met such judgmental vet receptionists before. Or is this the norm and I’ve just been spoiled?

I’m hoping to read another 3 or 4 blogs this weekend, then one a day next wee. Looking forward to catching up and seeing what you’ve all been up to. Hope life has been treating you all well.
